SB Soccer: SIT Wrapup

By Graham Chandler
Game 1 – Spartans (2) vs College de Levis - Blue (0)
Stanstead started the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 5th minute when left-winger Jeremiah  finished from inside the 6-yard box following a great pass from Jordan. The Spartans doubled the lead in the 12th minute when Gabriel won a 50/50 contested ball, made a quick move and fired a rocket into the back of the CDL goal. Spartan goalkeeper, Emanuel, faced and denied the four shots directed his way and earned the shutout.

Game 2 – Spartans (2) vs BCS (0)
With a re-worked starting line-up in game 2, Stanstead faced off against their old rivals from Bishop’s College School. Always well contested and exciting games, this encounter wasn’t decided until the second half. Jeremiah, with his second goal of the day, received a Ryder pass just inside the 18-yard box, opened his hips toward the target and curled his left-footed inside the far goalpost for a 1-0 lead.

Game 3 – Spartans (0) vs College de Levis - White (3)
The Spartans were dominated from the opening whistle by a highly skilled, well prepared College de Levis White team that looked like they were in mid-season form. A lesson was learned early in the game that would prove to be most valuable as the Spartans prepared for their ETIAC season ahead. That was, start the game being mentally prepared and ready to play. CDL opened the scoring in minute two and then added another in minute four to build a 2-0 halftime lead. They found the net again in the waning moments of the game to make the final score 3-0. The Spartans had their moments of solid ball control and effective passing, but they were too inconsistent for most of the game, and they didn’t threaten the CDL defensive backline and goalkeeper enough to affect the score. Lesson learned.
